The current Service Pack level for Inventor 10 is SP3a - see Download. If you are using the standard 32-bit Windows XP, the maximum available memory is 2GB (or 3GB if you use the /3GB switch - see Tips).

There is no hard limit of assembly (or part) size in Inventor. There are models with thousands of parts done in Inventor. Of course, larger assemblies consume more memory and CPU power. Inventor 2008 has new tools for processing large assemblies effectively. There are lots of new and enhanced functions - see e.g. www.autodesk.com/inventor

I am sorry, analyzing specific files goes beyond this free web service. I would recommend to contact your Autodesk reseller - he can help you better and on-site.

     Hey, thanks for answering so quick!  Inventor is a great program for designing and I love using it.  Thank you for your suggestions!  I have researched and tried all your suggestions and here are the details I can give you.  I believe we have the latest service packs,  how many service packs are there for inventor? and which is the latest?
     The workstation has 4 gigs ram, we watched the task manager and it seems it takes up more and more virtual memory from our graphics card as the program runs.   What is the actual limit for assembly (part) size per workstation? 
     If you think it is appropriate, I was wondering if I could send you the project file so you could take a look at it and tell me if we could make better use of our adaptivity or our extrusions?   Although, I would need a location to send it to.  I would also need to be assured that this would be kept between you and I, as we would like to keep our models and drawings privatized.  I appreciate you taking your time to help a concerned user. 
     Also, can you give me detailed information about the advantages and disadvantages of upgrading from inventor 10 to inventor 11 or inventor 2008?  We are considering purchasing a newer version. Or if you know a link with this kind of information that would be useful as well.

The overall performance can depend on many things. Your graphics card can be the bottleneck, the total assembly (part) size can be over limits of your workstation, there may be an improper use of adaptivity, etc.
 
Look in the Task manager to see the CPU load and memory consumption. A general recommendation is to use an Autodesk certified workstation and all the latest Inventor service packs.

Hi, first off, thank you for hosting this forum.

I am currently use Inventor 10 everyday at work, and I noticed a few issues that I am concerned about.  It seems to me that the more extrusions you do, the slower the program wants to go.  I am wondering if you guys had any idea about this problem, and i was also hoping you could explain how and why this happens.  Is there presently a fix for this issue?  I have made many extrusions in my model and i got 3 gigs of ram and well over the requirements needed for this software.  Why does it go so slow when I do mass extrusions? Please respond asap as I will be waiting for an answer!
