....and I know you're looking at CS3, but Nvidia cards can also accelerate CS4 (CUDA).

I've found the Quadro cards I've had generally work well - they also have specific drivers for different CAD/3D software, although I've never tried them myself.

I was looking at NVIDIA Quadro cards but now thinking ATI FIRE GL cards.
 
The V5600 is looking likely or even the V7600, but might be too pricey however!

have you allready searched for the Elsa graphics card or ATI, elsa is one of the best for 3d animations and ATI has a very good price quality relation.

I can try to see one for you but first i think you should investigate a little more on ELSA graphics or even ATI,

Hi,
 
I've started looking into buying a graphics card to run:
 
Auto CAD 2005
3D Studio Max 9
Creative Suite 3
 
I mainly draw in 3D using Auto CAD & import into Max to produce my renderings.
 
My Motherboard is ABIT SG-95 which i believe has PCI EXPRESS.
2 Gig RAM
Intel Celeron D 3.20GHz
XP SP2 2002
 
My budget is round Ł300-400 Sterling, there are so many to choose from but do not know where to start!
 
What I am unsure about is the difference between gaming graphics cards and CAD cards.
 
 
Would a high end Gaming card do a better job than a CAD card for the same money?
 
Ie-
 
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 / 280 against
 
NVIDIA Quadro FX1700
 
 
Any help on this would be appriciated!
