In this case your problem is Converting inch vs mm .
 
You have a different system from our in EU etc
Problem is Scaling or Converting.
 
I am trying to give some sample.
1) 1:10 does mean 1 units in drawing = 10 units in real so and text multiplay with 10.
2) 1inch=25.4 mm so you multiplay units in inch with 25.4

i got an exam tommorow and still dont really understand how to calculate scales

many classmates are having trouble understanding it

i was wondering is any one could help
