One note, to help pick a program, consider what your clients require.
 
Most of my clients demand *.dwg files, or any *.* which they can manipulate at their location.
 
AutoCAD products are/is the most common way the industrial world communicates.

I'm sure all three programs are top shelf, top-of-the-line.
 
Choosing a program, in my humble opinion, would depend almost entirely on what your mission is. What will your subject be?
 
Mechanical, architectural, HVAC, maps? Depends.

Hi everyone
I am new to this place.  I have an assignment on CAD / CAM where the question is to classify the available current CAD/CAM/CAE software into the categories such as : Low-end, Mid-range, High-end, Specialized Legacy, and Kernels. I have never come across specialized legacy and kernels. 
Could some one help me over here?
