I've had similar problems with xrefs disappearing, though not specifically relating to a bind function.

Try opening your options menu and turning your xref intensity all the way down.  Apply and close.
Now reopen your options menu and turn your xref intensity all the way up again.  Apply and close again.

This has "visually" restored xrefs for me in the past.

It may not fix your problem, but thought it might be worth a try anyway.

I'm running 2008. Maybe this is just a glich with my computer but recently, I've had a problem binding the xrefs of some drawings.
 
1. Open xref manager
2. Select the file
3. Right click
4. Bind
5. Bind
 
...and the xref disappears. It still appears in the xref manager and the layers still show up in layer manager but it's vanished. Others are able to bind the same drawing at a different station. This makes me suspect that it's my computer and not the file. Any ideas? Thanks.
