Challenge prior to <a href="http://au.autodesk.com">Autodesk University</a> 2011 (<a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2011/11/autodesk-university-123d-fab-challenge-at-the-creative-studio.html">post</a>) I had expected some wild and creations. The creative geniuses in the Autodesk Consumer Group came up with the idea for this fun challenge. The only limiting factor in my mind was the severely limited amount of time attendees have at Autodesk University which at times multiple classes and events were occurring at the same time.</p> <p><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef01675f1d7882970b-pi"><img style="margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; float: left" title="123D Fab! Challenge Cardboard Kit Pieces" alt="123D Fab! Challenge Cardboard Kit Pieces" align="left" src="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef01675f1d788b970b-pi" width="140" height="106" /></a></p> <p>People who signed up for the challenge were each given a kit of cardboard pieces they could assemble similar to tinker toys where the pieces could be connected to each other. The pieces resembled hands, wings, mustaches, gears, wrenches, letters and more. There was also an assortment of accessories including paint as well people could add their own items to their creations. The only rule was each entry had to include the 123D logo piece included.</p> <p><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef0162fe294ae6970d-pi"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="AU attendees creating entries for the 123D Fab! There were trebuchets, mechanical <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_goldberg">Rube Goldberg</a>’ish creations including the integration of LED lights, a lamp creation, Santa, and much more. I heard some people chose to work on their creations instead of venturing out into the crazy Las Vegas nights.</p> <p><strong>The creations were FAB-u-lous! </strong></p> <p>The winners were announced at the AU Mixer evening party in front of thousands of attendees winding down from the busy week.</p> <p><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef015438a80c51970c-pi"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="123DFabChallenge" border="0" alt="123DFabChallenge" src="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef0162fe294b04970d-pi" width="420" height="285" /></a></p> <p>Table with several of the entries.</p> <p><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef0162fe294b0b970d-pi"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Finalists" border="0" alt="Finalists" src="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef015438a80c62970c-pi" width="420" height="285" /></a></p> <p><strong>First Place</strong> Michael van Hamel won an awesome <a href="http://store.makerbot.com/thing-o-matic-kit-mk7.html">MakerBot Thing-O-Matic</a> 3D printer.</p> <p><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef015438a80c6d970c-pi"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Michael_1stPlace" border="0" alt="Michael_1stPlace" src="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef015438a80c75970c-pi" width="291" height="270" /></a><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef01675f1d78c1970b-pi"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="OliverwithWinner" border="0" alt="OliverwithWinner" src="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef015438a80c7e970c-pi" width="186" height="270" /></a></p> <p><strong>Second Place </strong>Neil Wakeman won a <a href="http://www.ponoko.com/">Ponoko</a> gift certificate worth $500. </p> <p><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef0162fe294b32970d-pi"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="NeilWakeman_2ndPlace" border="0" alt="NeilWakeman_2ndPlace" src="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef0162fe294b3a970d-pi" width="201" height="260" /></a></p> <p><strong>Third Place</strong> Joanne Massey won an <a href="http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/">Apple iPod Touch</a>.</p> <p><a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef0162fe294b3f970d-pi"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Joanne Massey 3rd Place" border="0" alt="Joanne Massey 3rd Place" src="http://autodesk.blogs.com/.a/6a00d8341bfd0c53ef0162fe294b43970d-pi" width="203" height="211" /></a></p> <p>Check out this video on the 123D Fab!
