I should have tested things *before* posting earlier because one can not edit the viewport boundary as if it were a polyline. My bad. My version of AutoCAD was also on the fritz at the time too.

Even if he is using it as a reference he originally asked how to change its shape. At this point we've offered several ways of doing it, so the ball is pretty much in his court to come back and let us know how he made out.

I'm going to have to try my own suggestion here shortly... right after I get done with a rebuild. I'm still plagued with that Windows Update mess from the other day.

I didn't actually try this but it seems it should work also...

Since a rectangle is also a polyline you should be able to use PEDIT (or a right click option) to add a vertex or two where ever you like to the existing viewport, and drag and drop them as needed. Done. No real need to make a new viewport, delete the old one, etc. The main thing is to use which ever method is faster or more understandable to you. AutoCAD provides lots of ways to clean the same cat.

If the question is how do you set the viewport scale now, you set it the same way regardless of whether the viewport is a rectangle or some oddly shaped polygon: select the viewport boundary and change the Scale value in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

Works fine for me. Just tested it using AutoCAD 2010.

Did you use the Viewport > Polygonal approach?
