What scale will the drawing be plotted at?

Hello,
I am a team member of 4 in my class. I have received different opinions about how to annotate elevations.  I have the north side elevation and my instructor says to only annotate to the edges of the elevation indicating the material I am annotating, not part way in the material I am trying to annotate. Is there any sample drawings showing some ways to indicate proper annotation techniques? Also, I am creating some elevation symbols. I am using a diameter of 5/8" circle. Is this correct? Thank you.
