Again, thanks for that update explanation.  I was curious about this post too.  The term "plate earthing" sounds vaguely British to me...  and I'll wager that's where it came from originally.
 
Here we commonly call it "grounding".  In an airfield or antenna installation it might also be referred to as the "counterpoise" system.

Since you asked, "earthing" is also known as "grounding". It is made to extend earth to an equipment so that any leakage current can be bypassed to earth and equipment is protect from any damage. Plate earthing is one type of earthing in which GI or copper plate is buried 3 meter below ground level, in a pit. The GI strip bolted to this plat is brought to the ground level. This pit is then back filled by mixture of charcoal and salt.

It is not possible to explain entire arrangement here. You may search "plate earthing" on internet for more info.

What is "plate earthing"?  I never heard of that term.  What kind of equipment are you talking about?

Would you be referring to a pile cap and a pier or footing?
