We have worked on a few projects where they were outsourcing their drafting overseas. In each case it was a nightmare. Communication sucked. They didn't understand the markups we were making. Only half of the markups were completed each time and half of those were done incorrectly.

I would never recommend this especially if the projects are the least bit complicated.

You have much better control if it is done in-house than if you send it out.  Just because it can be done fast doesn't mean it will be done right.

Those are my thoughts as well which I mentioned when I was asked to look into it!

I think they are considering somewhere that can work on them overnight, then dropbox them back for continued work here during the day.

But all being said, It seems much simpler to hire someone extra 'in-office' to increase to throughput.

Hi All,

I have had a brief run in with CAD outsourcing for a previous client and I know they abandoned the idea due to quality control issues.  I just wanted to see what your thoughts are on this and if there are any recommendations of firms you have had dealings with.

This is for fast turnaround drafting work on construction projects which would need to be completed overnight and would require signing of a non-disclosure agreement.  Due to the latter the firm would be keen to keep it within the UK or other country which could uphold the agreement.  But they are open to ideas!

Some of the work will require detailed design/construction of interior components.
