The Snipping Tool in Win7 is nice for the occasional grab, but for a polished and professional paper I still prefer something like SnagIt for the additional editing tools and features it provides.

The Snipping Tool comes standard with Win7.  It is the MS equivalent of SnagIt.

Another cool trick is to, in AutoCad select the items youwant to use in your Word doc.

Hit Ctrl+c (copy) then go to your Word doc and Hit Ctrl+v(paste) then stretch as needed.

or paste it into paint so you can crop or resize it. Thenyou can copy that back to your Word doc.

No programs needed just what you have already.

I write regular articles for my company user group, and to aid in presentation I use a purchased program called "SnagIt".  This allows me to grab selected portions of the screen for whatever purpose, they could be sections of the drawing or more commonly menu and command line options.  I can highlight areas for emphasis, etc.  Once I've edited the screen grab in the SnagIt editor it's a quick Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V into my Word file.  The trick is sometimes formatting/placing in Word, but that part is minor.

If you don't want to purchase a dedicated program like SnagIt you can do full screen grabs and edit them in a simple photo editor (something free) and do the same copy/paste routine.  It's all up to you.  But if you do a lot of writing where you need screenshots you can't beat something like SnagIt.  If nothing else it provides a very professional look to your output.

I've done it using the Snipping Tool in Windows 7.  You just create a jpg or png file then paste it into Word.
