Most companies will have their own standards that they follow unless they have adopted those set forth by the AIA.

i'm a freelance drafter, so no company standards to use, Can I download the AIA version from some where?

Search AIA CAD layer guidelines for starters.  Also look at the United States National CAD Standard and see what they have to offer.  Note that any AIA or national standard will most likely be far more involved than you actually require.  Do you anticipate sharing your architectural drawings with other architectural and/or mechanical firms much larger than your one man operation?  If so, you might ask what standard they follow as it could make sharing cad files easier.
