New Orleans is a unique city with its own food and culture. The part of the city I like best is the French Quarter also known as the Vieux Carré (old square), This part of the city is the oldest in New Orleans. The city was founded in 1718 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. Every child learns that in third grade in Louisiana. In addition to fine food and cosmopolitan culture, the French Quarter has a distinct architecture. Most of the present-day historic buildings were constructed during the late 18^th century, during the city's period of Spanish rule, and reflect Spanish colonial architecture.
