OK.  But how does it actually print?

It prints as the image shows.

It appears to be all one line of text.  If it were separate pieces of text (each word an individual entity) I might suspect a problem with the "Z" elevation (not zero).  But since I doubt that is the case I have no clue.  Is this the only line of text that exhibits the problem?  Have you tried changing the font just to see what happens?  What font are you using anyway?

The font is "romans" and its happening to all my leaders with mtext.
"Romans" is our standard font that we use but in this case I might have to use the font "simplex".
I hate cutting corners but I think this might be my only option.

I can't think of any reason why the font should look/print that way when used in MTEXT.
