The company I'm working for is using AutoCAD 2015. The company does not
have a plotter that can plot D-Size (22x34) drawings. We do everything
on either A-Size or B-Size and use the company printer to print the
drawings on either 8.5x11 or 11x17 paper. We use model space and paper
space for all drawings. We are a water treatment company, so we are
developing equipment layout and detail drawings as well as flow diagrams
and P&IDs. I'm trying to set up some needed CAD standards and I'm
having a hard time with the text size on the drawings. My issue is that
since the drawings are limited to A & B size, I often have
difficulty fitting text, labels, and dimensions. On the flow diagrams, the text and graphics are in model space and only the titleblock is in paper space. On layouts and detail drawings, the graphics are in model space and text and
dimensions in paper space. ideally, what I would like to do, is create the drawing on a D-Size (22x34) drawing, plot on 11x17 and have the text size legible and the titleblock not too small. Any way of doing this? Thanks |

Hello mmaurigi, the problem is not so difficult and you say that you elaborate drawings 2 times bigger that you can print. Set on your files text heights twice the value that is readable on a 1-1 scale drawing. If you set to 0.15 inches ( 3.81 mm ) on your 22x34 file it will be 0.075 inches ( 1.905 mm ) on your 11x17. This is for the paper space, if you lay your texts in the model space multiply this value by the scale ratio of your view ports and your texts height will be the same on your prints. You will have to set your texts heights in DDIM. All this ( and more ) should be set in your company "prototype" AutoCAD file with all the formats, dim styles, etc...
