i used to use autocad 2007, and in 3D, when i use top view; it draws in xy. when in to front view it draws in xz.
when i use autocad 2015, it draws in xy no matter what view i switch it to. what gives? also, any references that covers basic FAQ like this?

Hello khlumps, yes when you switch to one of the 6 basic viewpoints ( front , rear , top , etc... ) your UCS will change automatically and it's some kind of a help.
If you don't want this you will have to set a new the UCS to World.
You can even inactivate the Z direction if you want to draw in 3D with a 2D point of view.
For 3D work I recommand :

You may have the Dynamic UCS enabled. It can be disabled via a button in the Task Bar at the bottom of your screen.

@phillip, that's what i want, for the drawing to align to plane i'm working on. it's not happening, it stays on xy, no matter what plane i move to.
@john, i tried turning dynamic UCS on and off, still doesnt work

Hello again khlumps, you said : that's what I want and I will supose that what you want is to work in a 2D view on a 3D file and be sure to work in the X , Y plan.
So you go to : OPTIONS , Drafting , Object Snap Options and clic on Replace Z value with current elevation.
Then you will only work in your current X , Y plan with no risks to grip at a no good elevation.
Be sure to clic that option off when working in an other view and plan.
Please tell us if this helped or not.

Thanks for answering so quickly.
I think you misunderstand, i'm sorry if i was not clear.
1) I want to work in a 2D plane in 3D (you answered this, thank you :D) 2) I don't want to work in xy only, I want to work in xz, yz. I want the plane where i draw to change depending on my view, at the moment it is stuck on xy, i want to change that.
:D

Hello again khlumps, the method that I gave to you works when you are in a 2D view only.
If you want to work in a 3D view you can draw lines in the 3 directions with your AutoCAD 2015 but it's OK with otho ON.
If you want to change the X , Y plan in wich you work you will have to set a new UCS if your work is not a 3D sketch.
You can set a new UCS with 3 points defining a plan for example ( command UCS , 3 ( points ) ).
Are you OK with all the UCS command options ?

You have two options.
1. Change the orientation of your UCS manually.
2. Utilize the Dynamic UCS feature.
There is no magic button.

I'm familiar with new UCS, it doesnt change,
i start at Top View, let's say i draw a circle, the radius, is along xy when i change to Front View, and draw a circle, the radius is still drawn along xy, with Dynamic UCS, on or off

You might want to either buy a book or look in AutoCAD Help.

Upload a copy of the drawing to this website or make it available through Dropbox. Someone will take a look at it and suggest a solution to your problem.

Is the problem that the Restore Ortho setting has been set to "No"? The this Autodesk Screencast - At first, I have the restore Ortho set to "no", Then I re-set it to yes to get the "out of the box" default: http://autode.sk/1RrcNJ6" rel="nofollow - http://autode.sk/1RrcNJ6
Is the problem that the Restore Ortho setting . . . . http://%5b/QUOTE" rel="nofollow -
or, more specifically, the UCSORTHO system variable.
