Even if a block were created in the latest version one could always use DWG TrueView to save the block to an earlier version's file format.

A 3D wine barrel seems to be a pretty easy object to create in 3D.

Thanks for the advice.
I actually need the individual slats with their compound radii and the lid end grooves, which cad blocks didn't have.
I can draw it but I thought I could save some time if some already did it (lazy me)

That's a lot of detail to be asking for and most cad users would not include it in their 3D model because they would consider it to be overkill for their needs.  None-the-less I, for one, am looking forward to seeing your 3D model.  Upload a copy when you're done.  Thanks.
