A while back I wrote a blog post reaching out to It's Alive in the Lab readers to help identify a painting that my daughter saw and liked but could not recall its author.

  • http://labs.blogs.com/its_alive_in_the_lab/2009/06/request-for-help-identifying-a-painting.html - Request for Help Identifying a Painting

I got several responses that resulted in successfully identifying the painting and its creator.

As a result of that blog post, I sometimes get queries from readers who are in the same predicament. I normally use Google image search to resolve the mystery for them. I have been successful many times.

Now I have one where I have no been so lucky. Maybe the power of crowdsourcing can triumph over big data?

  1. Navigate to https://images.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl - images.google.com .

    Search01

  2. Click on the camera to search by image.

    Search02

  3. Click on upload an image and upload the image. This case, here is what an It's Alive in the Lab reader sent me:

    Cloud_0

  4. Here are the search results I got.

    Search03

Unfortunately, none of the images returned by the search engine results is a match. Does the image look familiar to you? The author signed it something like Castellos, Costellos, or maybe Castellas with a 99 at the end which probably implies he was painting like it's 1999 (actually it probably was 1999, but I couldn't resist the Prince reference).

So if you have any clues, you can respond to mailto:thelabs@autodesk.com - thelabs@autodesk.com . Thanks.

Image searching is alive in the lab.
