| In Autocad is it possible to have layers turned ON in Paper Space to enable printing while the layers are turned OFF in Model Space? |

If you turn a layer off in model space then switch to your paper space layout and check your viewport(s) how do expect the same layer to now be visible? Unusual request. Create layerstates; one MODEL & one PAPERSPACE with your layer visibility set as you like it, for a fast switch between the two visible states? Don't work in modelspace. Create a layout with a viewport & use as your working area. Viewport Freeze desired layer(s). |

Thanks Guys, I have tried the freeze trick but I may not be doing it properly. I have a drawing with many layers overlapping (ie Foundations, Floor 1, Floor 2, Roof)and when I want to print I am trying not to have to go and turn off the layers I don't want shown. I am trying to set my paper space so that each individual drawing only shows 1 particular floor but while leaving other layers turned on in model space. Is this achievable? Kind regards, Neville |

It is entirely possible to freeze layers you don't want to see in a layout viewport. I've done it countless times. Thanks guys but Kent is correct in what I was trying to achieve. I was trying to set layers in paper space that would be the only ones visible in that format whether I had them turned on or off in model space. ie I could go and print another copy at any time knowing that the layers I had set in a particular drawing would be the only ones visible no matter what I had turned on or off in model space. |

That does seem to directly contradict your second post, assuming that by "drawing" you mean "Paper Space Layout," and not a drawing file [.DWG]. I don't know of a way to do that -- Model Space status "rules" for Layers except for the one option of Freezing them in individual Paper Space Viewports, but there is no converse option to have one visible in a Viewport if it's off in Model Space.
