Hey guys, I'm Joseph and I'm a student in the university studying Architectural and engineering design. I love using CAD to design. In high school, I took a few classes using CAD like solidworks and Revit. I really enjoy the design aspect of all this but I want to refine my ideas into a concrete field where I can have a future of work opportunities. Based on what I've said, what are some possible careers that use this type of CAD? How has this helped you guys in your own lives? How did you build your own careers? Thanks for the help!

Revit is widely used in the architectural, HVAC, engineering and construction industries.
Solidworks has many different uses some of which include machine design, furniture design, medical device design, injection molding design, etc.

And what kind of job opportunities come from these fields? What kinds of skills do they look for in these jobs?

What kinds of job opportunities are there for those skilled in Revit?  Just visit any job website (ex. Monster.com) and type in as your search criteria the word REVIT (some require you to also enter the state you live in) and see what comes up.  In my home state 29 jobs came up that specifically referenced Revit skills.  When I switched it to Solidworks 70 jobs were listed.  Do some research and see what you come up with.

Do you professionally work with programs like Solidworks and Revit or autoCAD?

The best programs to use for what?  Did you check out an job boards or not?

I use full AutoCAD 2018 at the moment.  I've used Bricscad and Draftsight too which are both AutoCAD clones.  The version of Bricscad I used had 3D capability.  The free version of Draftsight I used was strictly 2D.
