Subject: How to unroll curved 3D facade dwg to 2D drawing?

Hi all,

I need a help from CAD experts because I am stuggling with a 3D drawing.

I got dwg file with 3D measurements of facade from surveyor (upper line, bottom line and 50-60 windows measured in all four corners) but to proceed with work I need 2D drawing of facade.

It is easy to get 2D drawing when facade is straight but building is half straight and half curved. When you look from top, building is shaped as letter "J".

If I use reference line and side view, facade will be shorter then it accually is becase of ortogonal projection.

Is there a soultion in AutoCAD Civil, Inventor or another program where I can unroll facade so that I get right dmensions between windows?

I hope somebody can help me ;)

How was the 3D facade created?  Was it done using RuleSurf?

Facade is measured with instrument, so upper line is "spline" connected between measured points to get curvature of facade and windows are lines/polylines.

I will try with RuleSurf command ;) Maybe that can be a solution.

Hello mateP, you can unfolds RuleSurf with the CadForum app. UNFOLDRS.
I can upload here an example of the use of UNFOLDRS.
Ask for it eventually.

Hi,

Thanks for pointing to unfoldRS ;)

I found and downloaded unfoldRS and 2dunfold.vlx from site.
I will try to test both.
Maybe solution is if I just copy curved line (spline) on different window levels and create new 2D curve between windows and then with 2Dunfold will get real distance along the face of building between windows.  Next step will be easy and boring part, creating 2D drawing with lines and offsets in 2D.

regards,
Mate

Hello again mateP, you will have to follow the "rules" to unfold your Rulesurf, see the cad tip N° 12237 here in the site.
MESHTYPE = 0 , set SURFATB1 and SURFTAB2, ask if not clear.
Appload unfoldrs.vlx
Command UNFOLDRS
