Hi experts

We use AutoCad R14 for all our old 2d engineering drawings (it's a Solidworks shop these days ...) and we've come up against a(nother) problem keeping it going.

When we update a workstation now, they come without parallel ports, so the old parallel dongle can't just be slotted in. We tried adding a parallel card into the PC but it's old architecture and we can't get the drivers to pass through.

Has anybody got over this problem without getting a new AutoCad? It's no use asking AutoDesk, they don't support R14 ...

Our IT guys will be your friends for life if you have a fix for this.

well, I'm surprised that your new machine doesnt have parallel port. I heard something about USB adaptors but that is most likely not gonna work ...
If you need just to open the drawings you can use free copy of DWGTruview, otherwise I would get a discounted copy of Autocad (2002-2006) ...

Hello everybody

Well our IT guys solved the problem in the end. They called the people who had provided us with the dongles in the first place ... they gave us a new driver which allows the software to function with XP and hey presto - AutoCad is back to work.

Clap Jolly good.
