when using thickness & elevation to build walls how do you create openings for windows & doors?  the problem being that using thickness creates faces on the walls & im unsure on how to insert an opening or manipulate the face to create the opening. any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

This is a rather ancient method for creating walls. If you deal with walls, you would probably need an AEC tool supporting intelligent wall objects - like AutoCAD Architecture or Revit.

That would be a possibility if i were using autocad but i use zwcad, a compatible program apart from some additional add-ons that require autocad specific versions.  do you know of any similar software that would be compatible?.
