I have around 40 Drawings and each drawing has round 30 instruments. Each instrument has a TAG(text name) (eg TI 1001, PT 0403). However our CAD drafters have put the tags as text and not as attributes. Now the client wants us to change the format in with the tags are (eg 1210TI 101A, 1329PT 205). Is it possible to generate a EXCELL spreadsheet from AUTOCAD---change the tags to new format ---import it back into AUTOCAD so that the names can automatically be changed.

I would appreciate if anyone can give some inputs.

Check out the lisp on internet "change text" which allows you change text. I have used in past but can't find it easily now.

How that lisp works is:
1. You need to select the text in the same order you want to edit.
2. Then it shows various options out of that choose "Edit text"
3. Then it would ask whether "Individually/Gloally etc." . type as per your requirement.
4. If you type "globally" then it would change all the text selected at once.  If you type "individually" then text would show up in the order you have selected.
5. Lisps work with full version of Autocad not Autocad Lite
If I could find I will pass on to you.

If you haven't found a solution, I have software that can do this function. I normally use it for language translation, but it can do what you are asking for. You can see the website at http://www.dwgglobal.com - http://www.dwgglobal.com  . I can extract the text, send it to you in a spreadsheet and re-insert the new text back into the drawing. If you are interested in this service, you can contact me through the website.
