Trey AutoCAD 3D 2007 Procedures & Applications by: Harry O. ward.  I taught myself Civil 3D 2006 using this book and it was very helpful.   Only thing you need to do is use Autodesk True Convert program to save back all the examples to 2004  this way you can open them.  Not much changes between 2006 and 2007 and like I said this was a good book to teach Civil 3D.
