Morning guys,

One of the guys in the office here is in charge or archiving all our old jobs and has been moaning about xrefs. We rarely use them in our drawings but every now and then need to.
My question is, is there a way of telling whether a drawing contains an xref before opening it from the saved location?

I believe there isnt and can only be done once the file is open.

Many thanks

Adam

If you do not use x-ref's much. then why not bind them before archiving the drawing. this way no matter where you open it the xref will alwasy be part of the dwg.

You can detect the DWG files containing xref references with our DBXscanXref batch tool.

See:

No, there is the Xref Bind command (option).

But you can use eTransmit to archive DWG files including their xrefs.
