I have tried to create a new template (ACAD 2006) with the dimension settings required.  The main thing I need is the new dimstyle.  It has primary units set at architectual.  When opening a new CAD session, it uses the default template no matter what.  But, when I use QNEW in the same session with the new template that has all my settings, it sets the standard as AM_ANSI and will not let me change it even though in the template I set the standard as standard (my own settings).  It ends up with primary units set at decimals.

Looking at 'options''AM:Standards' and right clicking on 'dimensions' pick 'properties' and at the top pick 'styles' and 'modify'.  The set style is a grey box that says AM_ANSI which will not let me change to standard.

When creating a new template, I open a new drawing, change the settings, save, and change the extension to dwt.  Is this the normal way of creating a template in 2006?  What template do I use to create a template and will the new template inherit the settings from the default or will it have my own settings.
