Hey guys, I'm planning to buy this laptop and I wanna know your opinions on wheather it's gonna be good enough for my work or not. I'm an architect working mainly with AutoCAD 2010 2D/3D and 3Ds MAX 2010 for Rendering and Light. The laptop specs are as follows: Toshiba Satellite : A505-S6986

A bit large for carrying around.
Take a peek-a-boo at Thinkpad™ laptops.
I've had four of them, all ran AutoCAD without ever having a problem.
Lenovo's customer service is #1.

@Tankman Thanks for the reply :) I have no problem with carrying it around , as my current laptop weighs way much heavier than this one, and I'm used to that. I just need your comments on the whether the above specs are going to give me the right performance for 3D work. Thank you |

you know toshiba is very awesome brand in the name of laptop then the specs is very high performance in times of rendering so deal it and enjoy........this image render time almost 5 hrs....of my pc.... |

 I might mention, the smaller screen laptops add time to battery life!

as usual autocad 2010 in modelling, 3dmax for rendering using vray...finally adjust image in cs4 photoshop.......render time 5hrs. using core2 dou 2.5gb of ram & geforce 9400 videocard nvidea....u think using your higher version in your laptop is made easy & fastest render..happy new year!!!!!!! |

No way a laptop is going to out run a well equipped workstation and/or desktop.
I move around, don't render, laptop is a necessity for me most of the time.

OK thnx for the help guys, how about the following specs for a desktop :
My work is 70% 2D and 30% 3D, in my 3D work I'm mainly doing some exterior renders to the building that I design and not so much interior shots. I'll be looking foreword to your comments. Regards, Daddu2000 |

Go as BIG as your budget will permit!
You will not be disappointed! Fully "loaded" laptops compete very well with desktops.

I'm using Lenovo laptop as well and it work great too. But Toshiba is a good brand and I've heard good feedback from it. You're specs are awesome I think it's worth investing.
