Hi, guys, I am autocad newbies, I need some help on choosing the platform for my task. Basically, I want to draw a 3D picture of road pavement layers with different materials, and with a real landscape on top of it, it is like a side view of both the real world above the ground and the geology under the ground. I don't need any animations. I have researched quite a bit but it seems it is really difficult find proper examples or resource for such task. Appreciated if anyone can point me a direction.

Cheers
Liu

If your going to do alot of 3D, I suggest AutoDesk Inventor. Much easier 3D interface than autocad alone. In addition, cost would play a large role in your decision. Alot of programs will do way more than you need, you might be able to find something more tailored to your need. Hope that helps.

I've seen Inventor but, never used it. The owner of Inventor told me he paid a very high price.

However, after viewing some Inventor results, I think I too would recommend you take a peek-a-boo at the program.

Free trial? Don't know but, you should check on AudoDesk's website.
