Today’s post is about your choices for behaviors when switching between two different workspaces – you can either automatically save changes or not. By default, changes you make to a workspace are NOT saved when you switch to a different workspace. In other words, if you make changes to workspace A, switch to workspace B, and then back to workspace A, the changes you made in the first step will be gone. Workspace A will be back to the way it was before, not the way you left it when you switched to workspace B. Some people prefer it this way. (It means accidental or temporary changes go away neatly.) But for others, it can be confusing. (“But I made changes to this workspace! Where’d they go?”) If you’re in the first group, the default setting will work for you. If you’re not, you’ll want to check out the Workspace Settings dialog. There, select “Automatically save workspace changes” instead of the default, “Do not save.” With this setting, if you make changes to workspace A, switch to workspace B, and then back to workspace A, the changes you made in the first step will still be there. Workspace A will be back to the way it was when you left it when you switched to workspace B. Depending on how you use workspaces, one setting or the other may make more sense for you. But either way, it’s nice to know what’s going on behind the scenes when you switch between workspaces.
