I have recieved some LIDAR information which has been translated into a .dem file which I am having some trouble loading into Civil 3D. Does anyone have any suggestions?

well first of all lydar information converts to massive files in cad. the best fix to this is to request a point file from the mapper that did the lydar imaging and then import them to cad and do a quick terrain model.

thats probably the most efficient way. and doesn't create file cad can almost barely handle.

the other way is to import the dem file into terramodel then export it out of terramodel into cad. mind it makes a file cad can barely handle.

Do you need the entire LiDAR file in your design -- or can you cut it down to a smaller area or corridor of interest?

You may want to cut the data down to a size Civil3D can handle using software better suited to working with a large LiDAR data set.
