Hi All,

had a little trouble with a virus not long ago that caused me to re-install acad 2007. Now my penweights are not the same. I still have the same .CTB files but they no longer look the same. For ex, i use RED for text and it used to be dark with thin lines. Now its not so dark with thicker, more blochy lines. Same with other colors. I've tried making all kinds of adjustments to the PLOT STYLE TABLE EDITOR but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?
thanks
cadman

What plot style are you using? Is it one of Autocad's default ctb files or is it your own custom file? It doesn't make sense that the lines would be blotchy though? Are you sure your printer isn't low on ink, or maybe needs to be cleaned?

I'm using a plot style i've used for about 8 years. i'm not sure if it started out as a autocad default plot style. but i've tweeked the settings exactly to what i like. the weird thing is that it plots different on final clean paper than it does on paper from that i insert into the bypass feeder. i've used both clean sheets from the roll of paper and the bypass for years with the same plot style with no problems. but after i re-installed acad they are different.

when i say "blochy" i just mean that the lines are screened back and a little thicker...where they used to be thin and crisp and darker. the plotter is working fine. had a tech check and clean it because of a problem with random spots on my prints.

after i re-installed acad, i had a hard time setting up the plotter again in acad. i kept getting an error telling me that the DEVICE SPECIFIED IN THE PC3 FILE CANNOT BE FOUND. after a while i managed to get it to work but its not working right at all.

what other info can i provide that would help?

thanks
cadman

What operating system are you running?
Have you checked your printers website lately for updated drivers?

Maybe your ctb file is somehow corrupted? Try making a new file.

running XP

just found what i think are the latest drivers (been looking for them since this prob started) on the manufac website. but it extracts a bunch of files to a new folder on the C drive called 4850_ACAD07_HDI and i'm not sure what to do with these items from there. the files include: divice interface, drv_kmwf.cnt, kmwide9.drc, etc.

where do i put these?

have not tried making a new ctb..i'll try that next.

I can't really tell you exactly where those files should go. Aren't there any instructions on the website that tell you where to extract the files? I would assume they need to go into your printer's folder on your C: drive, but you may need to contact your printer's tech support.

no instructions included on the website...just my luck.
it looks like they go into the DRV folder....i see similar files already in there. i've got them all in there and restarted acad but its not making any difference in plotting. still have the same issues. the guy that works on the plotter has no idea how to work with cad. how funny.

Ok, well, try making a new ctb file and see if that helps. I'm not sure what else to suggest?

found the problem...

i started to rebuild the ctb file as you suggested. then i decided to see if i had a backup on the server...didn't find one but i found backups of the plotter configuration files (PC3). for the heck of it i tried replacing the ones on my pc with these backups and WHAM!... problem solved.

i guess the pc3 files on my pc got corrupted somehow. this all started with a virus of some kind. thats why i had to re-install acad.

thanks for leading me in the right direction
