Hello all,
I want to create 3D models of electronic components for my Altium electronic design CAD program. Altium reads .step files, so they need to be in that format (or convertible). I also don't want to spend more than about USD 100, because I'm cheap. :-) I've tried Alibre PE, and it's a great program but it only produces .stl files which don't contain color information. Any other suggestions?

I think you're going to have to spend a little more than $100. Check out Rhino. You can get a commercial, single-user, license for around $1,000.

I agree with CAD64...Stop being Cheap. You can upgrade your Alibre PE to Pro for half the price of Rhino

Might I suggest ZwCAD Pro? Until January 31st you can buy it for $449 (U.S.) and it looks and works remarkably like AutoCAD.
