Hi all;
I am new here,so forgive me if there is any mistake i might make.My situation is a little bit strange.

I am using AutoCad 2004 with a bunch of dwg files, among which some are password protected. It is all ok to open those normal dwg,i.e, without password, however,my autocad 2004 failed to open any password-protected dwg files even if i key in the correct password.

The programe output is like:

Fatal error: unhandle access violation reading 0x0003c exception at 646b8513h

Measures i have already take:
  1. scan the registry to clean those rubbish info
  2. scan disk in case of some virus infection
  3. reinstall the auto cad software, still no result
  4. search the web for same situation as mine

SO, it is weird to encounter this, i am looking forward to you guy's help!

Thanks in advance !

Hmm that sounds strange...

I have seen such problems but that was with closing the document never open it...

It seems that your AutoCAD has a bug in it... Do you update the AutoCAD?

You can open a new drawing and drag there your drawing in (the dwg document) maybe you can open it at that way...

Open a new docuement en try "i" from insert to open it at that way...

Try with a newer AutoCAD and on a other pc....

I can help you with that...

The error is probably not related to password but it is rather an internal error (structure, damaged DWG, corrupted drawing object). Try to INSERT it in an empty drawing.

Then how to explain why all the non-password dwg are opened smoothly,as for the protected ones, none of them can be open without the error according to statement of my friend.

i did not check all the dwgs one by one,but that is what she said.

thanks.

Try to Insert it in a new drawing by 2 options

- drag the file in a new drawing

- use "i" from insert to insert the dwg in a drawing.

hi,Rikky, I have tried both the two suggestions you said, but still the same error. Any thoughts on this ? By the way, my friend open those files(same version of autocad) on another computer and that all goes well. Weird, is the problem related to the autocad itself or the os or software configuration ?

Hello...

I am pretty sure that it is a problem of AutoCAD on the pc of your friend...

If you open the drawings save them without a password... Can she open them when you did that?

Or make a wblock of it save the entire drawing and let her try to open it again...

Goodluck...

hi,Rikky, i agree with you. I reinstall the sofeware and fail again on my friend's pc. and she told me that she once reinstalled the winxp and auto-cad,but did not fix the problem.

Currently, i  am trying to reinstall the software to a different location other than c:\Programme Files.

Wait for my result....

If the problem exists on your friend's computer but not other computers, then it is a 'local' problem. I recommend first trying to 'repair' the installation. If that doesn't work, then Uninstall and do a clean install.

another weird thing occurred to me that i can not save a dwg with password protectd after re-installation.

I save as the dwg and select security option ,after keying in the password, next time i open the same dwg file,it proceed without asking me to type in the password i initially set.

Write wblock in the command line and press enter.

There appears a screen write block

choose the option Entire drawing  the file name path. (this do you on your pc becease you cant open the drawing on your friends pc...)

If it is right you can open the wblock drawing on her pc...

Open the drawing on your pc...
right click on the screen go to options.
Look under the tab Open and Save.
Press on Security Options...
delete the dots (password)
Press apply and save it again...

The password is now deleted from the drawing... Try to open it on your friends pc...

Good luck!

I can remove the password on my pc,so my friend can open the password-removed drawing on her pc, it turns out that i dont need to make a wblock. But is it tedious in this way, i mean it is best if my friend can simply double-click the drawing  on her own pc and open it.

I am going to reinstall the whole os ,do you think it is feasible  do have you any other advice ?  Really Thanks for the help

Sow that is good news! I really don't know why your friend has that problem and you can try to reinstall the whole os... Maybe upgrade AutoCAD?

Good luck and no problem mate ;)
