Hi, I am new to this forum and it seems great.

I wanted to ask a quick question, perhaps some of you can give me some advice.

I normally use Windows Backup to backup my DWG files but have experienced some problems with it. While looking for an alternate backup utility I came across an application called CAD backup from www.cadbackup.com.

It seems to be doing a good job backing up my DWG files but I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it, or whether there are any other recommended apps out there.

I backup to a DVD using neroBurning on a weekly basis every Friday. At the end of each work day I copy all the files I have worked on to my flash drive. I don't see a need to buy a separate CAD-related backup utility. But then again I work on a standalone computer and therefore I am totally to blame if I lose a file. No fingerpointing here...just have to look in the mirror to know who I need to yell at. Simple.

Hi John, thanks for the advice. I don't use Nero because I want to backup to an external USB drive and not a DVD. I also need an app which keeps versions of my files each time I save. I'll continue to try out cad backup for now and see how it goes.

I was actually wandering whether there are any other apps which are designed for backing up DWG files?

One can "over save" too. It is entirely up to the user and what gives him/her the desired comfort level/security they are looking for. Save away.

I'm with John on this one, but then, I too am on a stand-alone system.

If you really need it, there are many programs out there which manage versioning, not just for CAD, but for all files. I think the term is "Subversioning". Tortoise, for one, is really good for that.
