THE USE AND CREATION OF 3D FILE IS DIFFICULT BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

IF NO TRAINNING CURSE IS AVAILABLE FOR YOU, TRY TO LEARN FROM THE "AUTOCAD" BOOKS.

OLD VERSION SUCH AS "R13" PRINTED BOOK IS BETTER FOR A FIRST STEP AS ALWAYS CORRECT ON RECENT VERSIONS AND BETTER EXPLAINED FOR A NEWCOMER. MORE RECENT VERSION DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE FIRST STEPS AS IT'S SUPOSED TO BE ALREADY INTEGRATED.

ON MORE RECENT VERSIONS THE OFFICIAL PRINTED BOOKS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE BUT A "PDF" VERSION SHOULD BE FOUND ON YOUR COMPUTER IN THE DIRECTORY : (C) \ Program files \ AUTOCAD or AUTODESK \ ....... WITH A NAME SUCH AS :  Acad_2008_UserGuide.pdf OR APPROACHING.

AS IT WAS INDICATED ON THE OLD R13 VERSIONS, THE FIRST STEP IS TO LEARN EVERYTHING ABOUT THE USE OF "USC" AND "VIEWPOINT" AFTER THIS YOU CAN BEGINNG ON YOUR OWN.

3D functions are much easier in the newer versions of AutoCAD (2012, 2011). Just switch to the 3D Modeling workspace and try the solid and surface functions. User's Guide can the main source of information for starters.

The basis of 3D modeling starts with 2D objects which can then be turned into solids, surfaces or meshes using a variety of commands such as Extrude, Sweep, PressPull which in turn can be Unioned, Subtracted, or Intersected.  Then you can further influence these objects using the 3D editing commands such as Slice, Separate, Move Faces, etc.

What line of work are you in?  Mechanical, architectural, other?

You might want to look at some of the many tutorials that can be found online and/or purchase a good after-market book about AutoCAD 3D.

Your thread title says "New in Autocad 3D" but you've posted in the 3DS Max/Maya section. Are you looking for help with Autocad or Studio Max?
