Hi,
 
I am developing a approach paper to convert  paper drawings into CAD editable  drawings . Can any one help me with the process and CAD  Standards to apply. The drawings are in the Process control &  Process & Instrumentation.

Hello, I don't know if it's a good example but I'm used to "convert" old paper drawings into DWG drawings in the field of mechanical assemblies ( steel penstocks, dam gates etc... ).
When I do the operation I read the paper and convert it to Autocad and there is a thing that I do every times : I redo exactly the drawing in the same place and with the same dimensions, the views in the same place etc...
It's a way to verify your DWG.
When a line is badly drawn, with the dimensions you verify it.
A bad thing is when a dimension is missing and you are obliged to "scale" the drawing to complete your file... then add a text in your dimension --> to be verified or scaled on the paper.

Apply some of the same standards to your CAD versions of the P&IDs that you did to your paper versions.  Things like linetypes to identify process piping from utilities for example, assemble and use a library of symbols for your valves, instrumentation, and equipment and set up some layers in your template to handle all the entities you'll be dealing with.  Create and use some standard pipe labels too.

1.  Text fonts , dimensions , line type and line weight
2. Layer naming convention
3. File naming convention
 
Can these be shared , or  which standrds do you use can u pl.  share the draft.

No international standards that I am aware of.  In the U.S. there is a governing body called the ISA that some companies follow their recommendations regarding the use of symbols.

As a guide you might look at the book Control System Documentation - Applying Symbols and Identification (2nd edition) written by Thomas McAvinew and Raymond Mulley.

All of these are client specific standards, and can vary greatly from company to company.

There are governing bodies with respect to symbology, but none of the items you've listed would fall under their jurisdictions in any country as far as I'm aware.
