Subject: Drawing in Meters, but scale is off when plotting

Hi all,

I usually draw 1:1 in model space using feet/inches and have my border/text in paper space. All my scales come out just fine. However, for the latest drawing I'm working on, I need to draw in Meters. When I print out the drawing the scle is off. I have my drawing units already set to meters and the dimensions are correct.

How do I set up model space/paper space and border so that it will print to scale?

thanks

(using autocad civil 2011)

When you plot it has to be set to 1 unit = 1 mm.

i tried that but the dwg gets tiny. i dont think i have the drawing set up properly. i have the units set to meters and in page setup, i have it set to mm. i'm using 8.5x11 paper but i'm not sure what the size of the border should be. i'm using a border i've used for feet/inches drawings.

i need help setting up the drawing

thanks

the paper has to be in millimeter in order to plot correctly

Hello, I recommand to create forms in millimeters i.e. :
Create a rectangle of 215.9 mm x 279.4 mm ( US 8.5" x 11" ).
Create a rectangle of 279.4 mm x 431.8 mm ( US 11" x 17" ).

If you want to have an exact scale on your 8.5" x 11" plotter, create an other rectangle inside this rectangle with a factor that will shink your plotter's margins to zero ( copy / scale x ~0.95 ).
If you print the 215.9 x 0.95 = 205.105 mm x 279.4 x 0.95 = 265.43 mm rectangle you will obtain a print with scale 1/1 or others scales conformably to the scale you want.

You can determine the % of YOUR plotter's margins to be shrinked by looking at the settings when you print your 215.9 mm x 297.4 mm forms : see :
Scale of plotting / 1 mm = 0.XXX units
