The viewcube is for the 3D environment.

Maybe go to options/3D Modeling/Display Tools in Viewport/ Display the View Cube/  and check  2D Wireframe visual style.

What is the benefit of displaying the viewcube in a 2D environment?

cause i work in 2d...and the models are 3d...switching back and forth is very annoying and not nesscary cause i know the type commands...so i want that blasted view cube everywhere!! its tricky to rotate an object and have to guess which side your on the in pull down window thing

What work are you doing in 2D that require you to look at 3D models?

I thought you were doing electrical schematics?

I am...but right now its PLC cabinet design...alot of the stuff is in 3d, with viewports showing views in paperspace. but in order to minipulate the views, i gotta access model space an eff with the 3d...and want that cursed cube to show itself! LOL

Ahhhh.......no you don't.  There should be no need to enter the viewport to change the orientation of the display.  You can do that from the Ribbon while you are in your layout.

hahaha guess I said it wrong...i want to erase the viewports, and take the geometry out and flatten it all for 2d...the other guys i work with dont know 3D so they say get rid of it. but when I do, it skews all crazy like and I gotta keep going back to the 'top' view, cause autocad defaults the commands to that view...thats where the viewcube comes in handy...but its never there!!

tried NAVCUBE, cubesettingsanwhatnot, all that...

And just how do you go about flattening your 3D models to obtain your 2D views?

AutoCAD 2011.  OK.  You have four options available to you.

1. SectionPlane
2. Flatshot (not Flatten)
3. SolView/SolDraw
4. SolProf

With a move to 2012 you would have one more called View Base.

With all the problems you are experiencing I would suggest a radical approach.  Wipe the drive clean and reinstall everything.  Figure a day to do it.

Computers have been known to die suddenly.  Accidents happen.

So rather than fix the problem or buy you a new computer the company would rather you waste your time and their money trying to cope with the myriad of problems you have been having?  That does not make good business sense.  Can anyone other than yourself see this as being a waste of money?

Just for laughs what are your computer specs?
