Hello, 
I am using AutoCAD 2010. Recently I have got a problem placing windows into walls. Basically the problem is that the windows do not fit in the wall in a plan view - they are always with a smaller width than the wall.
Will be grateful if somebody could help.

Where did you get these windows?

Do you mean "depth" of wall?

What is your wall thickness?

Wood framed construction or masonry?

Yes I mean depth of wall. My wall thickness is 300mm. When I place the window in it, its thickness is always 120mm. Even if I change the thickness of the wall, the thickness of the window stays the same. The wall is load-bearing

By any chance are you using the window block that shipped with AutoCAD and came installed in the Architectural tab of the Tool Palettes?  If so, you'll probably have to modify it.  Some of those can be quite frustrating.

You failed to answer my question about the source of these window blocks you are inserting?

Are these blocks "static" or "dynamic"?  Dynamic blocks of windows and doors usually have a method by which the size can be changed.

I am using the basic wall blocks that come installed with AutoCAD 2010. To be honest I've got no idea if they're static or dynamic blocks. I've tried to play around with the properties settings but couldn't find a way of modifying the windows' depth.

Look on the Tool Palette.

Is there a yellow lightning bolt next to the icon for Window - Metric?  If there is then it is a Dynamic Block meaning both the width and the depth of the window can be adjusted.

Maybe you should stop what you are doing and take some time to educate yourself about dynamic blocks - what they are, how they work and how they can be created and modified.
