Hi guys, my first time here. I am keen to label rooms on plans and would like to see area, name and numbers. For the life of me I can't get to find out how to do this. Has any got a step by step tutorial or guide.
 
How do I export all the room tag information in to a database table or spreadsheet.
 
Hope you can help me here.

You should look into the use of Fields.  First try consulting your AutoCAD Help files.

One way would be to create a block with attributes for all the things you'd like to extract later.  You could insert the block and input values as you do so... room number, floor, area, whatever.  So creating blocks with attributes is one area of study.  This is the relatively easy part.

To get the data out you'll need to study how to create an attribute extraction template file and how to use the ATTEXT command.

The instructions for doing this can be found in your AutoCAD Help file.  Use the search term "extract" and it'll get you there.

Thanks for the pointers Dave, some progress has been made.
 
I did try to use Exellink to do the job but it ended up wiping the drawing off the sheet.......it left the file though which is something I suppose.
 
Anyway that experience aside I am now looking in to  ATTEXT to get the job done as we are downgrading our liscense to  LT from Architecture ????????. In the short term I extracted the attributes via the full ACAD package.
 
Just a question, if there are many sheets to a CAD file in Architecture and I export the attributes to Excel does the export include all the attributes or only hose in the current sheet view.

I honestly don't know anything about Autodesk Architecture but I would think the ATTEXT works on the model, so you'd get everything.
 
You will pay a functionality "penalty" going to LT versus the full version of AutoCAD with respect to data linking however.  It would be worth looking through a table of comparisons between the two products.  But honestly LT will probably do most everything you want nowadays.
 
I'd recommend you keep that old version of Architecture on a machine somewhere because it will always provide you with functions in the full version of AutoCAD should you need it when LT still can't do something.
