I use AutoCad 2000, but I am not an expert.  When drawing in 3D with four viewpoints I have problems with construction lines not working properly.  Fro instance, if the top view is activate, I can draw perpendicular construction lines in that veiw.  However, if I activate a different view, I can only draw constuction lines left to right (X-Direction I Think).  I can not draw constuction lines up and down (Y -Direction I Think).  However, if I click on any layer, hide it, and unhide it, I can draw construction lines in both directions, left to right and up and down.  This doesn't seem to be a basic veiwport issue.  It seems to be a basic setup problem.
Has anybody encountered similar problems with AutoCad 2000?
Does anybody reconize the symptoms?
Can anybody help me eliminate the problem?

If you think it is a setup problem then run the REPAIR option and see if it fixes the installation of AutoCAD.

Thank you for your reply.  I'm sure that I am missing something, but I don't find a repair option is AutoCad 2000.  There is "recover" under "file", but no repair.  Also, I don't see anything in help.  Can you respond.

In this case it's not in AutoCAD, but Windows 101.

Go to the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and click on your AutoCAD installation.  If the 2000 version included it you might find a Repair option there.  If not, this idea won't work.  But it's a first shot.  That's what John was suggesting.

Hello, I would like you to confirm a few things:
You have AutoCAD 2000 and so you can't draw in X,Y,Z directions but you can draw in X and Y.
With your AutoCAD 2000 you have to set an UCS to do this.
Is your UCSICONE active so that you can see the X,Y plan where you can work ?
If you work in the paper object, openning viewports and drawing in them, there can be different UCS applied to differents viewports.
It may not be an AutoCAD problem ( I think and I hope for you not to have to reload it ).
What is you expirience in AutoCAD 3D ?
Did you work previously with an other 3D AutoCAD or an other 3D software ?

I don't think the REPAIR option for AutoCAD 2000 was listed under Windows Add/Remove Programs.  I think you find it on the installation CD.

It won't be listed on the Windows screen for sure.  All that shows is Change/Remove.  But on the current versions if you click that button the AutoCAD installation routine activates and shows a new dialog with options to either Add or Remove Features, Repair or Reinstall, or Uninstall the program.  That's what I'd look for.  Not sure if all this was included in the 2000 vers or not.
