Hi. Im sitting here with an old book, that is trying to teach me the way of autocad. But i dont think the book is up to date...

I have created a 3d drawing in "model" like the book tells me.
The next step, is to make two viewports in the layout, one where i can see the top of the box, and one where i can see the right side of the box.

That i have done too.

next step is the problem.

Now i have two viewports on my layout, but they arent detailed with hidden lines and dimensions. according to my book there should be some kinda command, that does that. my book says : ´Activate the Setup Drawing button - and select solids to draw´ ?????? But how ??

Hope someone can help out.

There are a handful of different ways to create 2D views from a 3D model.  They are:

1. Flatshot
2. SectionPlane
3. SolProf
4. SolView/SolDraw
5. View Base (AutoCAD 2012 and higher)

Each has its pros and cons.

Given what you have said regarding the book's instructions I think it is referring to the combination of the SolView and SolDraw commands.  SolView will set up the various views (Top, front, side, iso, etc.).  Once the views are created then the SolDraw command is executed on each view to extract the 2D geometry.

Many long time users are abandoning the combo-command of SolView/SolDraw for the Flatshot, SectionPlane, and View Base commands.  You'll need to read up on each to find out exactly how they work then experiment with each to find the one that best works for you.

By the way, erase the two viewports that are currently on your screen.  When you use SolView it will create its own viewports.
