Hello, Autocad experts,

I have a new Dell 8500/Windows 7, and Autocad 2011.

i'm unable to find/install a driver for my HP755CM plotter.
(HP no longer supports it, but it works great for a retired guy).

?????????

Thanks     /s/    Bob

Are you using a 64-bit version of Windows 7?

Hello,
Yes, 64 bit Version.

Would the 32 bit version support the plotter?

Thanks   /s/    Bob

No, you need to use the 64-bit driver.

Hello, John,

Thank you for the info.

I'm using 'new computer' Dell tech support, but they are clearly not very familiar with Autocad.

Could you please provide me with some more info about the source and identity of the drivers, and any other info which would help them/me to install the drivers and make my plotter work.

It's still plotting just fine from my old computer, but I'd hate to have to keep that computer going only for for plotting.

Enjoy     /s/   Bob

What have you done to troubleshoot the problem so far?  Example: Have you uninstalled the plotter, removed the drivers then reinstalled?

One option...virtual machine.  Read this:

http://www.areforum.org/forums/showthread.php?218497-HP-Designjet-Plotter-windows-7-sucess!

What driver did you download?  Was it a 64-bit driver for Win7 or XP that you downloaded?

That's what I did when I faced such a problem. I've always been having troubles in compatibility when it comes to Windows 64-bit and 32-bit.
It worked well for me although I was searching for the 64-bit driver for too long:)

One other option would be to find a universal printer driver (if one is available for the DesignJet series) and see if it works.

Hello, Autocad Experts,
I'm right now on an interactive chat session with Dell technical support.  Can any one direct us to an address for a driver which we can install????

Thanks   /s/  Bob

HP755CM

The tech must be a new hire who never worked in the field.  Can't believe he cannot locate a suitable driver.  Did you inquire about a universal print driver?  Did you ask him about running a XP driver in a virtual machine or in XP mode?

Hello, John,
The Dell 'third world help' was not much help, but I thank you for yours.
For now, I'll just plot from my old computer, and give the plot/win7/HP755cm a rest.
New problem: Unable to control layers for new work. Old blocks change layers OK, but new lines -- blocks are locked. I've been all over the 'layer-lock' stuff, but I'm not clever enough to find a way to fix my problem.
Any ideas? Or, should I best post as a new topic?

Thanks   /s/   Bob

Blocks are locked how?  I'm not sure I understand your question.

Hello, John,

Problem solved.

A - too simple error - in the properties window, where the color switch was set to blocks, rather than layer.  I never use 'color', only layer, so pay no attention to it.  I must have stumbled over the switch.  I crawled through all sorts of discussion of layer lock before I found this.

There are, of course, lottssaa ways to go wrong, and I'm careful to avail myself of many of them.

Thanks for your help.

Enjoy    /s/   Bob
