Subject: Block/Attribute Behavior Changed

I have created a number of blocks for electronic components. Each block contains the component outline and an attribute for the component designation. The outline is grouped, the designation is not contained in the group.

Up until recently, the blocks have worked as follows - When I insert the block, I am prompted for the designation. If I enter one, it appears on the component. If I don't enter one, nothing appears on the component. If I explode the block, the attribute tag is displayed and I can move the tag separately from the component. The component is still grouped.

Sometime in the last few days, the behavior of the blocks has changed. Now, when I enter a block, I am not prompted for the designation. The part is inserted immediately, the attribute tag is displayed, and the component is ungrouped. This behavior is the same for all blocks. I've been using the same blocks and templates for years.

Can anyone explain why the behavior has changed? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am using AutoCAD LT 2005

The attribute prompts can be suppressed by the ATTREQ variable. See:

I've already tried that. It didn't work.
