I'm using AutoCAD 2013. Can someone please explain the procedure for creating views in "Layout" space from a 3D model.
 
I was wanting to use the MVIEW command to do this, but when I do, the view has a lot of extra lines. For instance, on a vertical cylinder, it displays vertical lines to show the curvature of the cylinder. I've used the VIEWBASE command, and although it show the graphics the way I want, just visible lines, it doesn't seem as flexible as MVIEW. For instance, if I change the scale in one view, it changes all the other views too. I also can't seem to move any view around the drawing independant of the other views. Sometimes you just need to position views were you want them, not necessarily were the software thinks they should be.
 
If I'm using these commands incorrectly, please help me out. Thanks.

Hello, if you want to see only the visibles lines you will have do do settings on your viewports.

Command : MVIEW , HIDE, ACtive, clic to select your viewport.
Maybe you will have to play with : DISPSILH , ISOLINES and FACETRES to have the look that you want.
Try to find the PDF AutoCAD documentation loaded in your C disk with a name like acad_acr.pdf.
If you want to see the hidden lines showed there is the possibility to create a 2D FLATSHOT ( with a good viewpoint and a good UCS ).

2D views of 3D models can be created using four different commands.

1) Flatshot

2) SolProf

3) SolView/SolDraw

4) SectionPlane

As to how 3D objects appear there are several different system variables some of which were previously mentioned by philippe above.
