My company has taken on an order for some decorative railings, which were drawn by the customer using polylines to make some eccentric shapes. The CAM software that we use, SigmaNest 7, does not like the polylines. The program simply crashes.

If there's any way of retaining the customer's shapes without effectively re-drawing their entire design, I'm all ears.

When I import one of the files into sigmanest, the program simply crashes. I did a quick and dirty cut-inch by replacing each shape with a polygon of about the same size, and they imported just fine as long as I deleted every polyline in the file.

I've run into a problem before where sigmanest will not handle polylines well, in that it will turn one into a complete circle despite having only a minor arc, but its easily handled by minor tweaks like deleting a redundant layer. I've never had sigmanest dislike a file so much that it just crashes.

Is my only option to redraw everything, or can I somehow convert those polylines into arcs and lines?

Thanks

Polylines can be exploded.

After I try to explode the railing, I get "cannot explode spline". I don't see any indication of elements being exploded, and I get the same crash (no helpful error messages).

Oh, you have splines not polylines?  Should have said so.  Convert the splines to a polylines using the SPLINEDIT command.
