Topic: Autocad Software Posted: 14.Jun.2011 at 12:58 |
Hi,
I use AutoCAD LT 2009 at work but I'm interested in having my own copy for home.
The latest 2012 version is over Å1000. I can make do with 2009 or 2010 or even 2011.
Does anyone know any companies selling older versions cheaper than the latest version.
I can buy old versions on Ebay but I'm never sure if they are legitimate, plus I want it to be un-registered with Autodesk so I can be the registered owner.
Many Thanks
Mike

Unfortunately there are no older/cheaper versions of AutoCAD sold legitimately. Usually it is possible to buy a "current but one" version but it costs the same.

Are you a student by any chance? They qualify for free software from AutoDesk.

No not a student.
So what happens to all the un-sold previous versions?

They are destroyed. It is against AutoDesk's policy for an authorized reseller to sell old software after a new release is issued although I think there is a "small" window (30 days) where it is still permissible.
It could look into buying one of the AutoCAD clones like ZwCad. Much cheaper. Edited by John Connor - 14.Jun.2011 at 13:52 |

Have you given any consideration to my suggestion re: AutoCAD clone? The software pricing on many of these is probably a third of what AutoDesk charges and the software itself is remarkably similar to AC such that you would hardly skip a beat in making the transition.
