Hi Guys.

I am new around here, and work for a company that does design work.
I hope you can help me a bit.

We recently "upgraded" one of our CAD workstations from:

Custom Built PC
I7 8th gen singele CPU
64GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro A2000
SSD
Windows 10

To
Dell Precision 7920
Xeon Dual Core
128GB RAM
Nvidia Quadro A4000
SSD
Windows 10.

I thought this would be a SIGNIFICANT upgrade, however the Dell Precision is MUCH slower than the Custom built I7.

It is specifically slow when opening drawings and models. Sometimes takes minutes to open a single file.

Why could this be?
Is this to be expected?

We use mostly inventor.

Thanks!

The PC performance will depend much on the CPU frequency and the SSD throughput. The amount of RAM seems to be an overkill.

Thanks for the comments.

Is there a way to edit Inventors configuration, to allow it to use more CPU cores?

Maybe by editing an .ini file or something like that?

Another question - which CAD software would take full advantage of Xeon CPU's?

Thanks.
