You may not have heard or even been aware of this new partnership with earthmine, or perhaps know what earthmine is. While visiting the Autodesk office in San Francisco recently I chatted with Justin Lokitz who is not only one of the best home brewers of beer, but also the Product Manager for AutoCAD Map 3D. Justin mentioned what earthmine was and the availability of the new product extension for AutoCAD Map 3D and then the earthmine CEO Anthony Fassero demonstrated the technology live. It is amazing and only similar to Google Map Streetview being able to see panoramic photos of a location on a map, but that is where similarity ends. earthmine is a professional GIS tool with rich and accurate data where you can even take location and horizontal and vertical measurements and even see right down to locations of 2D and 3D objects such as mapping your cities bus stops, underground piping, trees, or manhole covers in context of your GIS datasets within AutoCAD Map 3D. You can also visualize the automatically created point cloud data behind the panoramic imagery. earthmine for AutoCAD Map 3D: http://bit.ly/rjzwna earthmine for AutoCAD Map 3D delivers high resolution and immersive street level imagery alongside the traditional AutoCAD view. Map 3D features can be accurately displayed on top of the panoramic imagery via direct integration between the products - truly integrating GIS, CAD and earthmine data into a seamless solution. This integration provides a powerful way to visualize spatial data within its real world context, and enables users to gather and analyze additional information that may not be contained within their GIS. Benefits for GIS professionals, Planners, and Civil Engineers AutoCAD Map 3D in combination with earthmine provides users with access to detailed 3D street level imagery that can be used to help visualize and interact with Map 3D assets in the context of the real world With earthmine for AutoCAD Map 3D, users can measure distances and areas within the visual environment to help inform the placement of Map 3D content relative to physical features in the imagery, such as an edge of curb earthmine for AutoCAD Map 3D helps you to validate the accuracy of Map 3D feature locations such as telephone poles and manholes, by visually comparing the locations of the data to the locations in the earthmine imagery and underlying 3D point cloud data Once installed in AutoCAD Map 3D you get a earthmine ribbon tab. Below are some screenshots showing the earthmine extension and various functions such as measurement, point cloud data, and viewing your map dataset objects in the panoramic imagery sweetness of earthmine. He really should start a brew pub but we at Autodesk don’t really want to lose a great employee or the internal company beer source. Here is my iPhone photo of Justin and his amazing two types of home brewed beer. Cheers, Shaan Go to the original post...
